Exactly. I can tell you that it has already impacted my 5th grader very adversely.  And since they are doing some assignments in a blog I can read his classmate's writing and it's also abysmal for the most part.[/quote]

That is such nonsense. Sorry.  There are so many grammar rules that make no sense.  You just have to memorize the rules.  Sure, on rare occasion a kid may just pick it up from reading, but in majority of cases they absolutely need formal training in grammar.[/quote]
