As someone with no dog in this FCV/Loudoun race, it seems there will definitely be a shift in the power balance between these two teams at the U13 age and older. Previously girls had to leave Loudoun for an ECNL or DA team, now they don't. That's pretty simple. Will they all stay? Probably not, that's true for any club. But before they virtually had to leave, so most of them did. Comparing what older age Loudoun groups are currently doing in ECNL versus what the younger age groups will do is apples to oranges to say the least. The 07s are a very strong group. It is true, however, that they play to win at the younger ages in a way that many clubs don't. Their style of play may not translate as well to the big field, and they "pigeon hole" players into certain positions much earlier than other clubs do. Again, with no dog in the fight, my guess is that both clubs end up being pretty strong. There are plenty of good players to fill teams in that part of the state.
What Loudoun parents/players may find out though is that those clubs that they have been beating are building their players for a more sophisticated level of play that simply translates to 11v11 better even if it means short term struggles. Always playing to win, and using tactics solely to win can have some pretty detrimental effects on the players long term in regards to creativity and decision making on the field. Upon reaching ECNL when EVERY team has big strong fast players. And every team is not only capable of high pressure but are also able to posses the ball under high pressure. Long ball, athletic teams like Loudoun become exposed simply because they win based on athleticism and on the big field, in the higher leagues that athletic advantage is neutralized. But the biggest difference that Loudoun will face are teams that have concentrated talent. If you look at teams they have beaten, many are top 3 teams in Eastern PA and MD. Many are small club teams who will lose players to to DA or ECNL teams like Penn Fusion, MD United etc.. Those teams will have ADDED talent through attrition. How many outside kids are really coming to 07 tryouts at Loudoun? How much talent will they actually add? While other ECNL club teams are adding talent Loudoun will likely stay stagnant and will find things suddenly harder against teams they regularly beat. So instead of adding quality top 5 A team players form surrounding clubs, Loudoun will promote a couple of players from Black and pretend they are in CCL still.
