You’re thinking of her as a real person, while people are discussing her as a fictional character.   One can be unenthused about her storyline without having any less compassion for a real girl in her circumstances.

For me, This is Us is like a warm, emotional bath that uplifts me even with painful storylines.  Deja’s arc, so far, is just so grim.  These days, I don’t have a lot of bandwidth for that.  [/quote]

They are, but the characters’ lives involve more than just those challenges.  Jack was an alcoholic, but there are so many wonderful parts of Jack’s story as well.   Deja doesn’t even have the occasional funny quip.[/quote]
