I will stay because now I am motivated to be part of the solution. Many in the church hierarchy have admitted that they need the help of the laity and law enforcement to help them address the damage done by those who should have never been there to begin with. They know they need to clean house. They are finally admitting they need support to do it. There are good, faithful, holy priests. Men who accepted the vocation with all that it asks of them and they do their job well. My heart hurts for them. (Much like my heart hurts for my law enforcement husband who gets painted with the brush of every arrogant, hot-headed, power hungry cop who abuses his power and bring shame to the force. Yet many in the police brotherhood protect those who bring shame!) NO! Stand up! Be strong enough to speak up! I really do believe in this Church begun by Jesus through Peter. Evil, sinful men may have damaged it, but they will not break my faith in what I believe to be true. They will not break my will to do what Jesus would do. Oddly their sin is what has sparked me to now be more than a passive churchgoer. I want to fix my church to make amends to those who have been hurt and to support the faithful who want to, and WILL, do good.
Let me state this clearly. THEY RAPED YOUR CHILDREN! THOSE IN CHARGE KNEW THEY WERE RAPING YOUR CHILDREN AND THEY NOT ONLY PROTECTED THEM BUT MOVED THEM SO THEY COULD RAPE MORE CHILDREN. This was going on for decades and by the thousands and NOT ONE, NOT ONE priest or nun said “I don’t care what the bosses say, this is an abomination. I am going to put the welfare of the child ahead of the church and go to the authorities!” NOT ONE!!! If everyone in Hollywood knew that there was at least something hinky about Harvey Weinstein, I find it hard to believe that all these ‘good’ priests had no idea at all that this kind of stuff was going on. They had to at least have suspicions and talk - they are a tight group. And this new openness is just because they finally got caught. If they were genuinely good people they would open up all of their records, all of them and treat the priests with at least the same scorn they like to heap upon the divorced. The fact that no one spoke up and so many are still not willing to leave tells me that this truly is a cult. No different than Scientology or Jim Jones. How much more are you willing to sacrifice at the feet of the Pope?
