From what I've heard from parents with kids there, it means reasonably intelligent, but more importantly so willing to do more work - including homework - than is typically required at other schools, and in a self-directed way. So if you have to sit over your kid to get her to do a math worksheet, Basis might not be the best fit.

But if you have a 2.5 year old, PLEASE don't obsess. You have little idea of what your child or the schools will be like in 8 years.[/quote]

Understood, and I absolutely hope that the schools may change along our path to middle school.  But it's still very helpful for a FTM to have some type of rough framing / reference point for various school characteristics as try to follow threads and figure out how we may chart our kids educational course. I appreciate you, the PP upthread, giving some insight into what being a BASIS type of kid may mean...just helps make sense with some of the comments and references thrown out on the various school threads.[/quote]
