Quince Orchard or Poolesville. The parents don't put pressure on the teachers thus the schools are not pressure cookers. Both have great school spirit, great athletic programs, and a diverse student body. Parents at the W schools look down their noses at both schools but to them I say "f... of..".
So classy... and you wonder why people look down their noses at you. And for the record, it wouldn't be "parents at the W schools" looking down their noses at you, because parents at Walter Johnson certainly aren't like that. Walter Johnson while in Bethesda, is a very hard-working, tight-knit, neighborly community & the kids and their parents are very nice & respectful. Most of the kids and their families belong to Wildwood swim club & it's so nice to see how close the community is & how they truly enjoy spending time with each other doing meaningful things... not staring at their screens all day that they're too busy to look up & acknowledge you as a person. It's NOTHING like Winston Churchill or Whitman... they are like night and day & not in a positive way. Churchill & Whitman families have a LOT more money than the families of WJ & they are SO very busy showing it off. The parents at Whitman & Churchill just love to compete with each other as far as who has what & who's doing what to who? Good lord, how can you raise your kids to be respectable, compassionate, decent human beings, when you're too busy keeping up with each other's wealth that you don't have time to be a family? Have you ever heard the expression "Money talks, but wealth whispers"? Yeah, neither have the parents from Whitman & Churchill. I don't have kids at WJ, but I own a shop on Old Georgetown Rd & we get customers from all over Bethesda & Potomac... believe me when I tell you that it's easy to recognize who lives where & which kids go to what school. There is absolutely no way to confuse the kids from WJ & the ones from Whitman & Churchill. If you saw these kids on a daily basis like I do, you'd know there's no comparison either. The kids from WJ are NOT pulling up in a brand new Mercedes at lunch time & ordering people around like they are their own personal servants, all while checking their Instagram & making fun of someone else who just pulled up in a "is that a Camry.... uh, gross". You can always tell the kids from Whitman & Churchill because they act just as entitled as their parents... like little miniature a$$hole clones of them, Sure, they're both in Bethesda, but that's just geography & anyone who knows the area at all knows that.
My kids went to BCC & have already graduated, however two of my closest girlfriends have children in WJ & the other to Whitman. Since my kids are in college, I spend a great deal of time at their homes with their families & in my opinion, the previous posters assessment & descriptions couldn't be more accurate. WJ is a sweet, family oriented & neighborly community with good values & everyone says hi to each other (even if you don't know the other person) as you pass on the street walking your dog, jogging or strolling the kids. Where as in Whitman, the parents are cold, shallow, materialistic, gossipy/judgemental & arrogant. I never, ever see anyone talking on the street or waving hello, because the nanny is the one who walks the dog & strolls the baby, not the parents. It's true, in both cases the children do mimic the parents behaviors like little clones. While Wildwood & Grosvenor may not be the wealthiest neighborhoods in Bethesda, if I were given the choice of raising my children in either uber wealthy Carderock or super tight knit Wildwood, hands down Wildwood would win every time. It's easy to see why so many parents want their kids in WJ.
