Nobody to hide behind either.  They have always been like the dog barking and growling menacingly behind the screen door, safe behind that screen door.  They knew they couldn't actually take on whatever it was on the other side of the door.  They always counted on the Democrats to be the adults in the room, so that they have their theater and be the populist attack dogs, snarling and barking, and could always just blame the Democrats for not being able to charge through the door and chomp the shorts off of whatever cause du jour they were snarling about.  They also always knew that actually following through with half of their threats would have disastrous consequences, but they needed the political theater.  Now they can no longer use the Democrats for those checks and balances.  There's nobody to stop them but themselves.[/quote]
