I bet all the Lindsay sympathizers still believe that literally “anyone” could forget their kid in a hot car too.
That is completely different and, yes, I absolutely believe it could happen to anyone.
And what is your view on the Clancy case?
From the little that I (we) know, I think she probably did have some sort of psychotic break, but if you are capable of having a psychotic break that leads you to murder three babies (and it wasn't a snap instant like three gunshots- it seems like it would take 5 minutes for EACH KID from what I read)- then you are not safe to be in society and you need to be in an institution somewhere to protect society from your possible future psychotic episodes. I do not think that a parent who, on autopilot, leaves their sleeping baby in the car because they do not typically have their baby in the car with them in the mornings, needs to be institutionalized for the safety of society.
That was not my point at all. My point was that people who think Lindsay’s situation could happen to literally “anyone” also think the hot car situation could happen to literally “anyone.” The absolution of personal responsibility is astounding.
Well that's why I said I think it's completely different. I think that leaving a baby in a hot car truly can happen to anyone, who is going on autopilot and has a change in their daycare drop off routine. I do not believe "anyone" can have a psychotic break that leads to murdering their kids by intense strangulation one by one. I think that can only happen to someone who is dangerously mentally ill and that person needs to be locked away somewhere. I don't know how I feel about assigning blame in either case- because i guess I feel in both cases, of course the parent is to blame (Lindsay is clearly to blame and the mom who leaves her kid in the car is clearly to blame too) but I think one of those is a tragic accident made by someone who is no danger to society and had no intent to harm, and the other was a purposeful, violent, psychotic act made by someone who is absolutely a danger to society and who absolutely had intent to harm- even if the episode was caused by a mental break that was not their fault in any way, and even if that person grieves and regrets every moment of it once they are past their mental breakdown. It still happened and it could still happen again and they can't safely be in society.
