Right, because poor women in the south can easily pop over to California. They’ll just take the shifts off work, book the plane ticket for them and their children, and pay for a hotel room. Then they’ll pay for the procedure in cash. Right? All so simple! And what about women who find out that their fetus is incompatible with life at the 20 week anatomy scan? They should put their own health and their sanity on the back burner so you can pretend you’re saving someone? Your feelings do not supersede anyone else’s right to obtain medical care. Period. I had a baby last year. The doctor specifically told me that they were looking for defects that could not be fixed. You can’t do a thing for a child who has missing or malformed organs. There are many women who find out at the anatomy scan that their child will not survive, no matter the medical intervention. I know some of them. They don’t deserve to be put through legal hell in what is certainly the worst week of their life. You are a terrible person. [/quote]
I understand BUT they can do these scans much earlier now. They wait until 20 weeks for convenience. By 12 weeks, all organs are already there. There are genetic tests that can be done as early as 6-8 weeks. The states will further refine the laws.

This is good for Democrats as states use the popular vote, not electoral. So if you don’t like a governor, etc, you can vote them out via the popular vote. That’s  why Virginia is usually decided by Fairfax and Loudoun.[/quote]

There are no definitive tests at week 6 or 8. Please spare us this bs. The earliest reliable test is a CVS, done at weeks 10.5 (earliest possible) to week 12, and then you wait 7-10 days for the results. I should know: I live in NYC, had kids later in life and did it with all my pregnancies. One had a trisomy, and we repeated the test at week 14 to be sure. My abortion was not possible until the end of the 14th week, despite me being on top of timelines and having top insurance and access to some of the best prenatal specialists in the world. Most women are not as fortunate and don’t find out until later in their pregnancies.

+1000. I also had a CVS procedure at 12 weeks. Baby was fine but I would have terminated if severe abnormalities were detected. I was born before Roe was passed. In the 70s my family used to donate items to a nearby disabled children’s home. Those places were full of children who could not talk, walk or feed themselves. It was a life of parked wheelchairs in hallways with little human interaction for those children. That’s the kind of place desperate parents had to turn to if a severely disabled child was born to them. Our social safety net has only decreased since then. This is the world we are returning to. I know there is this fantasy that all unwanted babies will be given loving homes but that is not based in reality. [/quote]
