The only scenario in which the note makes any sense is if the killer was someone outside the family (Santa) and they were forcing Patsy to write it. Maybe it really was going to be a kidnapping and something went wrong after the note was written, but the kiler threatened to kill the rest of the family if they didn't stay quiet?

I think the knots used to make the garrote and the slip knots used on the rope used to bind JonBenet's wrists were part of the staging meant to confuse the detectives.  Somebody definitely wanted to make it clear that this was NOT something that a 9 year old kid did.  Maybe a hunter or a fisherman?  But definitely not a kid did this.[/quote]
