Past owner of c6 z06 vette. Can’t beat the rumble of the old school v8. Crazy fast. Plenty comfortable inside - I’m 6-3. Dirt cheap to maintain vs euro cars such as Porsche, etc. My ONLY issue was the low clearance particularly within the front end when traversing driveways so scraped it a few tines. However, I believe the new one OP is considering has an optional “front end list” feature. Go for it and enjoy it while you can.
This is the biggest thing the Vette has going for it. It’s has the same maintenance needs as any other performance car, but at a 1/4 the price or less. Dealer oil and lube service on my 996 was almost $500. On my C7 it was $100. Front brake pads and rotors: $2,700 on my Porsche, $645 on the Vette. Same performance, same degree of reliability, but a fraction of the cost to own.
Why would you take a 996 to a dealer? An independent mechanic would have saved you some money... interesting that you paid much more for the pads and rotors than I did for my turbo, but I'm sure you could have gotten cheaper breaks from an indy too... you can't compare a C7 to a 996 - not even a bit
