I'm going to say something that may be controversial and p*** some people off. My daughter is a competitive soccer player. We were so excited for her to play for QO in HS which has consistently ranked top 5 in the state. I know they have other high ranked sports teams as well (football, boys lax). How will the new Crowne be able to field competitive sports teams? Will they be able to attract good coaches and will the school even have fields when it first opens? This issue may seem ridiculous to some, but we are looking for scholarship opportunities for our daughter and worried that the good schools won't come to scout at an unknown school.
Yes this is ridiculous. 1. Schools are about education first and foremost. Your daughters playing soccer is so far down the list as to not be important. 2) it’s a brand new HS. Why would you think it won’t have a field or teachers and staff like every other HS in the county. 3) Do you know how many competitive soccer players there are in MoCo. What even gives you a guarantee your daughter will make the team at QO?
Schools, including college, isn't just about book knowledge. It's about learning and growing as a person. Exploring things outside of your boundaries. Sports gives players a chance on working on many things that will make people successful in life, the drive to do your best, keep working on improvement, teamwork, communication, etc. Not to mention it helps foster the community spirit. I've seen the advantages that people who've played sports have and is a reason why I wouldn't my kids to participate in them. I don't see Crown as having a lot of school spirit with it drawing from people from outside areas and not having things like competitive school sports.
