You know, I almost said yes to  a sleepover invite for my daughter a few months ago. I was so close to saying yes...didn't want to helicopter, thought it was a little crazy to be so paranoid. And then I flashed back to 1991.  In the town where I grew up, rumors were floating around that the physician father of my sister's friend was accused of spying on his adolescent daughter's friends. Happened during a sleepover while they were changing clothes in the family's guest house. I never knew what happened to the accused father and most people assumed it wasn't true.  I googled him. He was indeed jailed for it and then some years later incarcerated again for additional sex offenses involving minors.  I'm going to err on the side of helicoptering for sleepovers. I don't care who extends the invite.
