Do Jews and Muslims have a single central authority that establishes and supports a doctrine? I think your question is self-evident. The orthodox Jews and conservative Muslims are a fringe of the overall establishment. Moderate Muslims and reform Jews are free to believe and practice as they wish. [/quote]

exactly. and you also don't see orthodox jews and muslims in this country seeking to use the political process to control people who *are not even their religion* like the catholics are doing with the affordable care act and birth control, or reproductive rights in catholic hospitals. [/quote]

The previous posts have not been about public influence or power structure, they have been critical of individual Catholics who cannot possibly love their neighbor because of their views. You are now switching lines of argument from a moral one to a political one. Do you believe that Conservative and Orthodox Jews and Muslims cannot love people who are gay? 
Also, these are religious traditions that similarly consider gay acts to be sinful, deny believers within their own traditions from marrying people of the same sex, don't approve of gay parenting, etc., etc.[/quote]
