I've, driven through certain parts of VA, and it was very scary.  Yes, there are scary parts in MD, too, as there are in probably most states, but I don't pretend it doesn't exist.[/quote]

To an outsider from the west coast with a spouse from Europe, VA has a reputation of being a "gun loving backward state".   These types of incidences just fuel that stereotype.  I'm sure there are some lovely people in VA, though.[/quote]
