Parklawn is at the other end of Lincolnia Road and Belvedere is almost in Annandale.
ParkLawn is less than a mile
Not according to google maps it's not. Distances must seem closer to you when you are afraid.
Actually google maps said it is.try again
Sorry but even if you measure from the very tip of the property, which is blocked by a large black fence, the distance to 4710 North Chambliss Street, Alexandria is 1.0 miles. The distance to an actual entrance is even farther. It's a straight shot down Lincolnia, so there is really nothing to dispute.
There will be no large fence around the shelter, the proposed site to the school property is less than a mile. And half a mile to a day care and Catholic school where little kids are outside playing. This is undisputed fact
And the church and Catholic school are on the same grounds. The only major fact here is you have no clue whatsoever of what you're talking about OK give me the exact longitude and latitude of the points you are measuring, and the distance. I have measured it three times. The property I was referring to was the school, which actually has a big black fence at that tip. Fact. And since I am a Catholic, I have no problem saying that we have an obligation to the poor and I am unafraid of my children being within a half mile of them. In fact my children are less than a half mile from homeless people all the time.
It's obvious you're ignorant if the area, there is no big black fence, kids climb over it all the time, it's about three-four feet high. Just a quick drive by shows that.

Not at the corner. You are talking about along the side. The exact route: 1 mile https://www.google.com/maps/dir/38.8320638,-77.1522884/38.8214749,-77.144195/@38.8241381,-77.1463887,17z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!3m4!1m2!1d-77.1442008!2d38.8214493!3s0x89b7b3a94469ba81:0xf2a46034b409994e!1m0!3e0
There is no large black fence. Route is shorter than a mile as they don't need to cut across Chambliss to get to Lincolnia. Catholic day care and elementary school 1/2 mile and daycare academy less than a mile. Development of residential homes in the 1-2 million range and across Lincolnia houses from 600-700s. So all soft targets for criminals. Those are the facts
1. If you think that cutting behind the buildings somehow makes the distance appreciably shorter, you are nuts. 2. The fence can be seen from Google Street View. I measured from the very closest tip of the school property just to satisfy you, and the fence there is tall. They can walk farther to a lower section of fence, but that would undermine your attempt to get this trip below 5,280 feet. 3. People living in 1-2 million dollar homes are no more worthy than anyone else. I say this as I type from such a home. 4. There is always a daycare somewhere. I have yet to hear stories of homeless people invading daycares. 5. Homeless people may have issues, but they are not the hardened criminals, and a shelter is not a prison. Half of them are veterans. Lastly, if you are the Catholic poster, you should be ashamed. I hope you aren't, because you know church teaching on the preferential option for the poor. You know this is not the work of Pope Francis. If it is you, you know better.
Once again you're completely wrong. You've obviously never driven by the school. There is no argue fence. There is a fence, that elementary school kids can hop and do all the time. By ours also still ignoring the fact there is another elementary school half a mile away, with NO fences. And they do walks in the neighborhood. A lot of homeless are mentally unstable and drug addicts. They're dangerous for children and seniors Police stated crime would go up themselves at the meeting. If your ok with this, post your zip code, we can move it there.
I already live near a homeless shelter. So no need. I also used to live near a large homeless camp in DC. No worries. Half the neighborhood kids go to school three blocks from a homeless shelter. I have yet to hear anyone mention this as an issue for the school. I have also worked with homeless people and so I don't need you to tell me what they are like. I also do not need you to tell me what the neighborhood is like because I used to live there. I picked shell casings on the playground of Patrick Henry. I know about the assaults and the drug busts that go on near Beauregard and Little River Turnpike. I'd worry more about the residents than some homeless people who, by the way, live in your neighborhood already. This is garden variety nimbyism. So clutch your pearls or your pandora necklace or whatever else it is that you have going, but the county should not revolve around your fear of what you do not know.
