She'll claim her BIL reacted violently to the news and she was right to tell the sister because she always suspected he had a mean streak.. On the very slim chance this is a true story I hope BIL is able to get away from his wife and her family. Sister wanting to provoke her FIL is disturbing, I won't even get into OP's astounding lack of empathy.
