Nobody is ready for huge numbers on the scale that is happening in Germany. Heck, the US is not offering to take even a tenth of what Germany is taking. And, yes, Westerners have a much more secular relationship with their religions than many other cultures. It's totally understandable that people are concerned about more extreme beliefs that may not coexist very well in their society.
