I'm amused that there appears to be just one Eastern booster, who is easily identified by her terrible grammar and syntax. I wonder if she went to Eastern? If so, not a great advertisement for the education there. How well do these kids from Eastern and Banneker do at college once they get there? It is really shockingly easy to get into a decent school if you are an average, poor, minority student. The colleges lower their academic standards significantly for certain populations. But is their DCPS education solid enough to allow them to graduate in 4 years with no remedial coursework?
1. Stop being so lazy in this world of easy access to info. The Banneker kids do well in college, most graduating in 4 years. 2. You're crazy to think college acceptances are handed out to anyone today. Poor, black or otherwise. And you're insane to believe. That standards are soooo relaxed for certain populations that acceptance is a given. Even if acceptances were being given out like cars at the Oprah show, companies are not doling out 10s of millions in scholarship $ to mediocre students. 3. Accept it: DC kids can and do succeed without gentrifiers. These are hardworking kids who deserve every commendation and scholarship dollar they earn.
All of Banneker students graduate college. And they enter without remediation. Remember, these are AP, IB college bound students who must apply and test in. Banneker does a wonderful job tracking the college graduation rates of their students. Banneker kids are just as successful as any other.
