I had a similar experience in St Lucia, we stayed at a small bed and breakfast with a terrific view of the Pitons during Jazzfest. The concert we saw and the waterfall & hot spring gardens and smaller hotels we visited near Soufriere were nice, as was the snorkeling at Anse Chastenet, but the unemployed men trying to sell absolute crap in downtown Soufriere and on the beaches were a hassle and there was a lot of trash in the streets, like they don't care enough about their beautiful home to keep it clean. It seemed like everywhere we went the women were working and the men were loitering. Apparently there is also a big drug/human trafficking problem there because of their location on the island chain. We met a local at the hotel restaurant who said there are nightclubs there you would not want to walk in to - he said "your wife might go in disappear and not in a good way." [/quote]
