And I already thought MV was growing too fast too soon. This is a recipe for disaster IMO. Concerns me that they couldn't budget for new construction without adding last minute classes. Does not look good on the admins part.
Lots of assumptions in this post.... growing too fast for whom? We go to the school, we are new this year and could not have been happier with this growth year. All the naysayers about quality of program in last years expansion year did not prevent this from being a fantastic year for mine or several other new kids. Also the need for new classes was based on unexpected and unprecedented citywide shortfall from Bowsers school budget and lack of typical increase per student as has happened every year before, not on bad budgeting skills. I suppose it likely to assume to worst without all the information but people people sure do love to pop mess without much knowledge of the truth....
Read the posts from your fellow MV parents.
This MV parent thinks its a good move or at least one that makes sense. You're adding two grades in the next two years any way so add them early and you get the money to keep up your (not inexpensive) programs and renovations and in the future you'll get better Spanish speaking students as those added classes move up through the ranks. Three of the issues that have been raised about MV - lack of play space, bullying issues in higher grades and complaints about Spanish proficiency (the last being more of a DCUM issue) got addressed here. Back to my kool-aid, I mean coffee...
Seriously, as another MV parent, I couldn't be more thrilled with all of the announcements today. It shows real ingenuity that they were able to solve so many problems at once with such creative solutions. Moreover, this is just the size of the school, take it or leave it. It makes no financial sense to leave spaces empty, and this is the way that they have decided to deal with it. Almost every charter that moves has some choppy growth, and the building of a new building made it inevitable that we would this year as well. I'm glad they were able to avoid adding classes in later years or creating a larger continuing cohort. I actually think this larger class might be the strongest one so far as we won't have such a large influx of new Spanish learners in the later years.
