One of the happy Latin parents here--but you see, that's just it: they aren't being "burned."  I speak only for myself, but I simply don't believe test scores indicate that my child (who, yes, is advanced) is being "burned."  My child is reading great books, learning how to write, learning Latin, grappling with philosophy, doing science experiments, and will be on track to take BC calculus, along with many other APs, before graduation.  On what planet is that being "burned"?  It's far and away better than the education I received in MS/HS, and I am Ivy-educated, so somehow I think my Latin kid will do just fine in college.  So you see, it's not that I don't care--it's that I simply disagree with your premise.  Sort of a case of "who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?" :)

On a separate point, I used to think happiness in school was overrated, but the older my children get, the more convinced I become that in fact it is absolutely critical as a prerequisite for serious education.
