I haven't gone back and checked, but it's occurred to me that the 3rd child, who is still fairly small, is a girl. Is that right? This mom clearly has issues with food and volume, and while I think DCUM might be getting her to see that teenage boys need A LOT of food/fuel, I really think the poor girl in this family is going to be set up for some food issues of her own. Older women who have had children don't need a lot of calories - I'm betting the mom eats 1500 calories, give or take, a day. Growing kids simply need a lot more calories- certainly double that amount, and depending on metabolism and exercise even more. I'm not disparaging your cooking. Your food sounds good. It's just geared toward older adult portion sizes. One pound of spaghetti for 8 people is not enough. 10 chicken legs for 6 people is not enough. One rack of ribs for 6 people is not enough. If you do want to continue for small portion sizes, expect to have your kids eat another meal in the later evening. You can either increase portion sizes, or increase frequency of meals. Maybe 5 meals a day with small sizes is where you're heading.
