I asked DH if a bikini was ok for a 1st grader. My husband said: "No. I would never want to do anything that would encourage the worst in some people that are out there. It is more about that, that anything else."
I agree. So count me as one of the weirdos. They have the rest of their adult lives to wear one if they choose, why start now?
You agree that a pedophile will target your 6-year-old or 7-year-old daughter because she is wearing a bikini?
It isn't just pedophiles. It is the 8-12yr olds trying to look (and then act) like teenagers. Dads, older teens, lifeguards checking them out. I think that is what the PP is talking about.
So 8-12-year-old girls shouldn't wear bikinis because people will look at them?
If you and your tween are fine with people looking at her sexually at such a young age, then no. But not everyone likes to raise their kid to look like that. My DD's friend was hit on my a 16yr and she is 11. She wears provocative bathing suits and clothes. She tries and does look older for her age. Some kids like to grow up and get attention quicker than others. Bikini tweens tend to be those kids. If you allow a bikini at a young age, there is no turning back on it.
