Hungry children COULD get food to eat if their parents prioritized more effectively. Take up your beef with them. Period.
If we did that the kids would probably starve. Anyone who is against feeding innocent kids is gross.
Weird how the highest rates of obesity are among those living in poverty, right? The ones getting "food assistance" through WIC, FARMs, and those EBT cards are the ones also suffering from childhood obesity. Also, if the parent is getting food stamps, shouldn't she be expected to use that money to pay for food to pack her children a lunch to bring to school? Wonder what would happen if they did away with free lunches and told parents to put lunch money in their kids accounts using the EBT cards. I bet they'd quickly learn that packing a lunch is cheaper than "buying". FCPS is increasing the cost of school lunch next year due to "rising food, labor, and BENEFIT costs." So now those that have to pay for their children if they want to buy will have to pay $.25 more each day. Is that fair? I worked at a school cafeteria and the FARMs kids ALWAYS had money to purchase snacks in addition to the free meal that went straight into the trash. Ice cream, cookies and chips everyday. Priorities, people.
I guess that means your kids but no snacks at school, so as not to abuse your government handout?? After all, you work in the cafeteria and we all know they don't earn shit, so your kids must be FARMS!
Well you are right about one thing, they don't pay much to lunch ladies, but I don't even work there anymore anyways. I was the one who wiped down tables, helped kids open things, brought napkins & utensils, let kids go to the bathroom, and helped if they had their hands up. I got paid about $8 an hour when I left my job last year. (I quit because we moved an hour away). The good thing was that I didn't have that job because I NEEDED it, I had it because I wanted to do it. I am a SAHM to ONE child and my husband earns really good money, so our child doesn't qualify for free or reduced prices. I pack his lunch 4 days and let him buy one day a week. I have no problem with children receiving free or reduced lunches, or any of the public assistance that they receive. I actually feel sorry for them. I used to be one of those kids too. My mom had three kids before she was 23, and was a single mom with no college education and she worked as a waitress. We got free lunches, but I was too embarrassed to eat them because they used to have it where you told the cashier "I get free lunch". We also never had any food shortage in my house and I had two older brothers. My problem with public assistance has NOTHING to do with the children receiving it. My problem is with the waste, fraud, and abuse that is happening with all these programs. If you all ore okay with that, whatever, but I'm not and I have my reasons. For one, the cost of living and taxes are only getting higher and higher which is only harming the people on these tax-payer funded programs. Somebody has to pay for all of this. Another thing is, how can anyone expect people on public assistance to improve their lives when the system is set up where they can't get off the programs? If they earn a little extra they cut back on the benefits they receive. How can they get ahead when that happens? One more thing is that people often feel bad about themselves when they are on public assistance because they are unable to provide for themselves and/or their families. How is that good for anyone? Especially when it's so hard to get out of it? For my family, we try to be frugal so that we have some money saved up in case of an emergency. We try to teach our child to be responsible with money so that he will have some experience and understanding of that when he's older. For people on public assistance, they can't do that and that's a lack of security which is really, really sad. So, I will just say that public assistance should be better managed so it can actually help people and not keep them on it long term.
Oh... so I get it. First, it's the people don't have priorities and the kids should not be allowed ice cream, now it's I was poor, but we were the good kind of poor. LOL! I know your type, sorta feel sorry for you. Though, I do agree that the public assistance programs are not designed well. Neither is our education system. Or the corporate welfare that allows companies to deduct CEO salaries that are over a million dollars. A lot of things suck lady, including your initial attitude that you are now trying to backtrack on.
You're a freakin moron!!!! Oh my god! I never said I was the "good type" of poor! Now we have "good poor"? How is any poor good????? Wtf is wrong with you???? I said my mom was just like everyone else in how we ended up on public assistance. About 1/2 of the population is you idiot. I never said no ice cream for anybody, I said PRIORITIES! Quit trying to demonize me on trivial BS! I KNOW YOUR TYPE TOO!!! Do good-know nothing liberal pos!!!!!! I'm not trying to back track on anything, you are a nasty person. You DO NOT KNOW ME, and I am SOOOOO glad I don't know you! I present facts, you attack. Hopeless.
