If you are going the g tube route (which is more invasive and requires a surgery) why not get an ng tube now? It is super simple and not a big deal at all. It is a very easy solution. I don't at all.
I don't see any mention of a G tube.
See 14:16. She says they are getting one. I have a very hard time believing that if that is the route, a doctor hasn't recommended an ng or nj tube in the interim if things are so dire.
I'm the former g-tube mom who posted earlier. In our case the Dr's did not suggest an ng or nj tube while waiting, for a variety of reasons. The two biggest, as explained to me, were 1) For a kid with severe reflux, and especially one like mine with aspiration issues, an nasal tube can serve as a conduit or pathway to increase the reflux, increasing the likelihood aspiration or other complications. 2) Nasal tubes can contribute dramatically to feeding aversions as they are quite uncomfortable, and babies may come to associate feeding with discomfort. For these two reasons, my son's doctor felt it better to wait until surgery. In the OP's case, it seems to me (note: I only know what's posted here) that the big issue is weight gain. The OP's baby seems to be getting enough liquid to stay hydrated, which is buying them a little time. Given that, the Dr.'s may prefer to avoid the risks and negative impacts of an ng tube by waiting a little while and going straight to the g-tube.
