It had many what is now called 'native indian' languages. Then the whites came and most of them were not English speaking. The blacks were definitely not English speaking.
Eventually the number of German speakers was the same as that of white English speakers, so it was decided that everybody speak English. Only nobody knows how to speak real English so the language got to be called American English
American English has never been the only language spoken in America[/quote]
