This is an interesting thread and good points made on both sides. I do think that people tend to argue the extremes on issues like this. Nevertheless, I DO think it is beyond terrible that the US company with the most overall revenue and billionaire owners (and shareholders) has FULL time employees who still need public assistance to get by.
If the company owner isn't a billionaire, is it ok for full time employees to need public assistance? What about the government, is it ok for it to have full-time military and civilian employees who need public assistance?
I am not sure I understand your question and I do not know how the government does things with respect to military families, but I do know that Walmart's policies are intentionally designed to achieve that result.
Many companies, not just Walmart, comply with the laws they must, while trying to optimize their financial rewards. Their goal is not "let's see how many employees we can force onto food stamps!" but rather "how can we keep employment costs as low as possible while still meeting our legal requirements." Many military families are on food stamps, because their income is insufficient to feed their families. I get tired of seeing people say "Walmart" as if only Walmart has this issue. No, it's part of our society. And if we have issues with it, then it should be something we, as a society, argue to change across society. By pointing at Walmart we create a Face of Evil and get to pretend that it's just that nasty evil Walmart run by those nasty evil greedy people. This is our society, this is not Walmart.
