OK, but I guess I don't understand how the both the initial and updated budgets on the DCPS website can show 1.7 APs and it's apparently going ot be zero.
The budget allocations are what DCPS central office does to come up with a total budget number for the school. A school with a projected enrollment of 687 is given funding for 1.7 APs for example. There's a column following the funding number for whether or not it is a required position, the AP is not. After the principal recieves the allocation from central office she is given some flexibility in how to allocate the total number in to actual positions in her school budget which she then sends back to central for approval (or really I think they work together on this, I'm not sure). This is the budget document for Lafeyette with no money budgeted for an AP. http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Files/downloads/ABOUT%20DCPS/Budget%20-%20Finance/FY14%20documents/School%20Allocation-FY14%20Final/DCPS-LAFAYETTE-Submitted-Budget-FY14.pdf The PTA has no official role in deciding the school budget, but the principal has to share information with the LSAT. I'm guessing the input the LSAT has in the process varies by school.
