To the folks who want the poor to be federal income tax free....do you give your kids an allowance? Do they spend their "own" money as freely as they spend your money? Do they ever decide not to buy something with their own money, preferring instead to save it for later? Do they do the same with your money? If you happen to have perfect children, maybe there is no difference in how they treat your money and their money. But most kids are only human and won't treat their money the same way as yours. Their money is precious and your money well...it seems unlimited. And honestly, many people view government money in much the same way. If some people aren't taxed at all, where is their outrage at government waste, where is their incentive to cut back on spending? When I was little there was a neighborhood familly that received government handouts. One day as the one of the kids was leaving his house, my mom reminded him that he left the lights on and he should go turn it off. He said "We never bother to turn the lights off. We don't pay for that ourselves, what's the point." My mom was stunned, though as an adult myself now, I'm not really surprised.
+1000 It is like the norm is to pity and hand out to poor, illegals and it is so wrong to say - you are breaking a law, you are taking advantage for too long, you aren't trying hard enough to pick yourself up. If you do, you are not compassionate, you are a bigot. You have no heart. No you are teaching your kids that if they don't try hard enough or don't want to abide by the laws, someone will help you especially if you whine loud enough that "life isn't fair!!"
What a stupid, stupid, stupid analogy. Look, worthy tax-payers, someone making $20k working at Wal-mart isn't thinking "yummy yummy gov't is giving me more money!" when they get a tax credit refund, they're thinking "thank God I have some extra money this month, so I can buy my kid some clothes, etc." I know this because I used to be one of those people. Just because you knew some douchebag who didn't turn his lights out doesn't mean a damn thing. Maybe they developed that lousy attitude after spending some time with you! The gov't doesn't even provide those kinds of benefits to anyone. Most of these posters are insulting, out of touch, and you clearly know little to nothing about the tax system, or what kinds of government "benefits" are available to the working poor, or the non-working poor, for that matter. You just whine incessantly about nothing in particular because you want to feel like a victim.
