I grew up in NJ and went to college in Massachusetts. And I've lived here for 20 years. The big difference is that DC does not have nearly the same level of snow equipment or response personnel. Folks just don't have the experience of regular snow like New England does. When it snows all the time, everyone learns how to manage it. But here, we go years without a big storm, and then suddenly get slammed. [/quote]

Thank you. EVERY big snow this comes up. I've been in Chicago during a MAJOR storm. They have much more equipment and personel than we do. The streets are cleared quickly with huge piles on the sides. I've also lived briefly in SC and they are worse than us. People thought I was oh so brave driving around in barely anything. It also took forever to get all the roads taken care of.[/quote]

And yet every single one of these people who complain about closings would be bitching about their taxes and government waste if any jurisdiction kept enough personnel on salary and equipment maintained to clear the roads quickly in these storms.[/quote]
