So which positions are being eliminated? I find this all confusing.
Final decision is up to MCPS, not County Council, so it won't be official until June 4th. But if they stick to what was announced-- the changes saved the middle school teacher and staff development teacher jobs (several hundred combined.) All the rest are still theoretically set to be cut.
But Jawando moved to reallocate 36 million from CIP to salaries, right? And that passed 7-4. Does that mean that those jobs are safe?
If MCPS sticks to their stated plan, then that means the jobs on pages 3-5 (if more than $36M was cut) are safe but the jobs on pages 1-2 (if $18M or $36M was cut) are gone. i.e. middle school teacher and staff development teacher jobs are safe, all the rest (media assistant, ECA, PPW, family engagement, college and career navigators, special ed resource teachers, etc) will be still be cut. That said, Taylor and/or the Board of Ed could change their plan on how they allocate the $36M in cuts, so it is not definite that the jobs on pages 1-2 are cut. (Also it's not final-final from County Council either, but extremely unlikely to change at this point.)
