There is a question asking whether you are seeking financial aid. You just say no. I think that is it. We filled out Fafsa because DD applied to some merit scholarships, but she said no to financial aid.
Did some schools indicate you should do fafsa for merit? We didn’t do fafsa and DS still got merit at a few schools last year but wondering if we should do some thing differently for DD next year. Our income is high and we don’t need aid but getting merit is still nice.
REAL MERIT does not need a Fafsa. Kid got tons and tons even from top25 schools, no Fafsa. From low-ranked schools it is discounts: Neighbor's kid was midling GPA/1380 SAT at the private school, got $20k off out of state publics at many places, very close to the 28 k the top kids got. They also did no fafsa or CSS. They are more loaded with $$$ than we are, but kid got WL or rejected from every T25 as well as VT and UVA and WM, so the OOS discount of "merit" became a bragging point. Some schools even give "presidential scholar" names to these big discounts they offer to a large segment of applicants.
