Well adjusted people don’t dye their hair non-natural colors. They don’t get nose rings either. People pretending otherwise are silly. If OP is still reading, I’d be concerned too. Did she do it at home? The other issue is that she is sneaking around and hiding stuff. What else is she hiding, I would want to know. I’d start doing phone checks at night if you aren’t already. How are her grades? Her friend circle? This is most likely influenced by another person she knows. Is she college-bound?
This nonsense makes me want to dye my 17 year old’s hair bright pink myself.
Have fun. But normal kids don’t do that. Stop gaslighting.
I’m not gaslighting. We just have different ideas of what a “normal kid” is. It’s really harmful to assume that kids who like hair dye or goth makeup or whatever are obviously mentally ill. Believe me, there are tons of kids with mental health problems blending in to the crowd.
There isn’t a single kid at our high school with non-natural hair color or goth makeup that hangs out with the mainstream kids. They hang out with the goth kids or the “furries” or whatever. Any parent saying that doesn’t concern them seems deluded. I think it’s harmful to act like there is “nothing to see here.” Parents who do this feel like they are really forcing the “it’s fine”-ness of it.
And? What’s your point? High school kids are cliquey. That doesn’t mean that one group is obviously more mentally ill than another. They’re just into different things. My own high school senior looks totally mainstream but is in a visual arts magnet program, and her close friend group is pretty evenly balanced between “normal looking” kids like her and kids with bright colored hair, nose rings, and/or goth makeup. I’ve gotten to know these kids very well over four years and they are all amazing kids. I never once have worried about them getting into trouble when they hang out. No drinking, no drugs, nothing like that. They’re really great kids, all of them. Just try getting to know people before you make assumptions based on their outward appearances.
I really can't believe they just wrote that (well I can, but how can anyone be so oblivious).
