Sydney Wyatt Both are vile.
Vile babies?
Vile names. They’re tacky redneck names.
Those names are okay. I know siblings Colt and Wynne (short for Winchester). They're my cousins kids in Montana. Horrible
Colt is not great but Wynne is okay. I know an adult Wynne and it suits him and he's a great guy. What would have been awful would have been Colt and Wesson (which is in the top 1000 names in the US, sadly). Though I actually think Wesley/Wes is a good name. Some other boys names I've heard of recently that I find awful: Maverick, Remington, Blaze, Jagger Also, I frequent a baby naming subreddit and mostly it's great, but the one question I absolutely loathe seeing posted is "I want to give my daughter a "cool girl" name, please suggest some." The names suggested are mostly perfectly fine, but this impulse of wanting to give your daughter a name that will make her a "cool girl" in life feels super toxic to me. It's like "I want my daughter to be better than other girls, how can I best accomplish that?" It's of a piece with naming your son after a brand of gun or a wildfire or a rock star.
The cool girl names suggested always seem to be boys names. I get that naming a pretty, popular girl Ryan or Blake is sort of subversive in a fun way but what if she's not pretty and popular?
PP here. There are often suggestions of boys names, though Ryan and Blake are both out of fashion right now. People are more likely to suggest names like Blaire, Sloane, Summer, or Serena (I don't know the degree to which people are aware they are just offering the name of "cool girls" from television shows and movies, but these names pop up a ton). Also names like Maxine that can nickname to a boy's name like Max, are popular. It is definitely true that people often think feminine names are not sufficiently "cool" which should tell you a lot about the instincts behind the "cool girl" name trend. I really loathe it. Especially because just going by the law of averages, most of the girls getting these names will not be the "cool girls" in their high schools -- they'll just be regular girls. They'll get zits, struggle to with dressing post-pubescent bodies, have weird and unresolved feelings about their crushes, get embarrassed sometimes, fight with friends occasionally, but hopefully work it all out and come out the other side okay. Placing the expectation on them that they be "cool" from the moment they are born sounds exhausting to me.
