Ha. 1:02 is a fast cut for high school girls. It’s faster than BB for 15-16 year old girls.

I have boys who swim club as well as high school. 1:02 is very fast for a 10 year old. I bet there are fewer than 2-300 10 year olds in the country who are swimming 1:02 or faster.

BB time isn’t fast.  If you have a BB time as a 15 year-old girl, you aren’t cracking an A meet on our mid-tier summer league team.

A BB time doesn’t light the world on fire, but then again, neither do most high school swimmers. Swim is one of the few high school sports where kids who have not trained since elementary can join the team and even contribute points. My kids swim both club and high school and well over 50% of their boys’ team cannot swim a 1:02 100 free. The fastest kid swims a 46 flat, and there are enough kids in the 47-48 sec range so that the entire team succeeds and were able to win a state title.

Flexing that your “mid-tier summer league team” is way faster than a 1:02 is just sad, and I don’t have to explain why. A BB time represents the top 15% of swimmers who participate in USA swimming, which means that it likely represents a smaller percentage of high school swimmers, many of whom do not swim year round. A team that cuts at 1:02 is very selective.

Does va high school swimming keep track of top times during the season? Or someone can check swim cloud. I would be very surprised if every single female swimmer on Chantilly or the other school mentioned are faster than 1:02.

As another person said, BB times is not top 15%, but top 35%.

And if you actually frickin read, you’ll see it’s not a flex at all.  It’s an indicator that in ALL of the mid divisions, a BB time is bottom half of A meet swimmers- aka not that good.

DP - you are entirely missing the point, which is that it's not your place as an adult to tell the world that a bunch of kids *you don't even know* are "not that good" at swimming.

Seriously.  Do you have nothing better to do than nitpick about children's swimming prowess?  These are KIDS.  You are expending time and energy criticizing someone else's children. My DS (15) swims 1:02 and barely made his high school team. But guess what? He knows he’s not super competitive. He’s swimming because he enjoys it. He’s swimming because it is great fitness. He’s swimming because many of his friends are also on Swim Team. He knows he won’t be swimming in college.

Actually, pedestrian is “lacking inspiration or excitement; dull”
Someone who is inspired to be on the swim team even though they are not the fastest is not “lacking inspiration”. Someone who cherishes team camaraderie and friendship is not “dull”. [/quote]
