She had spoken about her bulimia, describing a very severe manifestation of the eating disorder.

She indicated this was in her twenties, for about four years, but...I never believed her.  I don't think it is something you just permanently get over.  There will always be relapses.

I lost a good friend, a former college professor, when she was about Diane's age.  She too went through a sudden decline, just very weak and seemed to always have a cold or other smaller issue.  She confessed to me that she'd been bulimic for forty years.  It never really went away.  She was so ashamed and embarrassed to tell me.  Her doctor already knew, and apparently had been telling her for years that she was destroying her body.

So that's what I always thought of when I heard of Diane Keaton, and what I wonder about now.  Years of cycling into and out of and back into bouts with her ED surely weakened her body and did an untold amount of damage.  [/quote]
