We signed DS up for tryouts on the recommendation of our club (and prior to seeing any of these threads) and because it sounded like a nice opportunity for good-quality, supplemental training—nothing more. Several others from his team also tried out but not all were selected. Will report back later on our experience. Sessions set to start this weekend.
I think this is the right approach. What skewed the narrative is people thinking this is a RDS is a realistic route into academy. It may be for the younger ages if the kids have not been exposed to proper training. Most top kids in the U11-U13 ranges are already playing 6 days a week in some sort of fashion whether in their clubs, supplemental trainers or just pickup.
Being realistic and arming one's self with knowledge from good sources is definitely a good move In our area there are probably around 800 boys on the local clubs MLS Next rosters from the six clubs (not counting the DCU academy) u13 to u19 Then you have thousands of boys in same age ranges at ECNL, EDP, EA, NCSL, HS etc locally A kid being one of the less than probably 80 kids at DC academy is a pretty slim prospect if we want to be realistic and honest
