Why is everyone being so secretive about this? It shouldn’t be a problem to share who the coaches are if they are already sharing things on social media. Who are these highly regarded coaches connected to local Footy culture? If it’s who I’m thinking of, I haven’t seen anything on his social media. I’d love to get a glimpse of what’s happening before I consider putting my sons into it. Like other people have mentioned, DC United is problematic at best and I would love to be a part of helping to make this organization better so we all have a good local option versus sending our players to other cities and teams to pursue their dreams. Such a shame!
What precisely is your planned functional realistic approach to make the DC United organization better? How do you see you doing this?
The first step is to educate the target market about what is wrong. Knowledge is power. Not many people understand the problems with DCU because they don't understand the system, the rules of engagement, the politics and are followers for the most part so they just follow what they think everyone else around them will think is prestigious. Once the problems are widely known, maybe the parents will begin to think harder and more strategically about their choices and/or demand better for their children who are actually in the system. Knowledge leads to a better ability to hold the program accountable. An educated target audience, with the ability and knowledge to hold DCU accountable is exactly what DCU does NOT want because they know as soon as there is a critical.maas of people in our area that understand that the program is not acceptable, the less their chances are of acquiring better players. This in turn, will lessen the academy further to the point where many local teams can offer better and more robust development opportunities (which is already the case in certain instances). This will continue to shrink the player pool and the money making opportunity for DCU will evaporate. The money making opportunity is already weak as it stands today because the academy isn't really selling academy players. BUT the academy is still decent at recruiting talent. Not great at it and they miss a lot of good players, but decent. Once that stops, the entire value proposition of the academy is practically zero (the academy isn't about producing college level players) and for a 1mil + expenditure on the balance sheet, the higher ups will absolutely notice that. It's dead money with no real potential for ROI. The thread on here about whether DCU is a good academy or not is an absolute gold mine for any parent wanting to really understand the nuances of DCU and it's shortcomings (and the positives) Take a look at it and begin to demand more for your son. The more people that do this, the better the academy will become over time. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1232298.page
You said your only desire was to help the DC United Academy be better The question was, what is your real attainable plan and the feasible achievable steps for you to do so?
