Not the end of the world but it still is not great for the average level player with an August birthday that won't get to play with either his SY, the team they have been with for years or the majority of the kids their BY. Not everyone is worried about college I'd sessions. I understand there has to be a cutoff but 8/1 was probably the worst choice
Agreed 9/1 was the better choice. 🫡
9/1+30/60 is even better. You get the 9/1 cutoff but if players can prove their grade and were born 30 or 60 days before 9/1 they can play with that group. This addresses players playing down and also gets rid of the edge case trapped players.
Yea I saw a the ECNL guys mention this at minute 3:25 https://youtu.be/lMbhMm4dmA0?si=1vXH7NKt_dri0t5J
Finally! some people get it. Leagues don't have to be 100% binary. There are options that can be implemented that address trapped players entirely even the edge case SY ones.
Pay attention. They aren't ECNL guys and don't mention allowing players to cheat and play down. One person mentions having Sept play up a year if they are up a grade. It would be pointless if course because players can always play up.
The exact quote was... "And then theyre going to make it Setember 1 and 2 teams will still have trapped players" he was saying that under SY with a 9/1 cutoff that there would still be teams with trapped players. "so then I heard that they were going to do September 1 but if you were up the year in grades, in the school you'd stay with that..." this is another way of saying a 9/1 cutoff but if you're an Aug birthday you cant play down. Which is just a variation of 9/1+30/60. What this means is that US Soccer and maybe US Club was considering 9/1 with a rule that Aug birthdays can only play with their birthday in school. I bet idiots like the guy screaming against 9/1+30/60 drowned out the logic pushing for the dumbest solution possible. This is when they switched to 8/1.
