Agreed. Why can’t California follow the example of the following red states that allow children as young as 12 (or younger with parental consent) to work on farms with few restrictions?

Which makes it extra weird that Noem and ICE and MAGA are doing a lot of posturing claiming to be enforcing California child labor laws when a.) it's state and not federal jurisdiction and b.) they don't even know what the damn law is.[/quote]

It turns out that there is no weed growing license that permits minors - legal or undocumented to work at a marijuana farm -

Federal Law – Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
•Non-agriculture: Children under 14 cannot work. Those aged 14–15 are restricted to limited hours and safe jobs; 16–17 may work unlimited hours but still cannot perform hazardous work.
•Agricultural exemptions exist—allowing minors aged 12+ to perform some farm duties outside school hours—but hazardous occupations remain off-limits. FLSA explicitly lists “agricultural labor that can harm health or well-being” as prohibited for minors.
