Re Beauty:  Go out route 29 someday and drive towards Charlottesville.  It's absolutely stunning.  Go to the Blue Ridge Mtns.  Absolutely gorgeous unspoiled beauty.

Re Wealth:  earlier PP is correct. Tysons is going to become the new big destination city.  It's already happening with the hi-tech corridor.  The construction is finally over.  The infrastructure is in place with Dulles and the new Metro. Our property values are finally moving up again.  I'm not saying I like it - I avoid shopping at Tysons like the plague but I can get to the movie theaters there now in less than five min. due to the HOT lanes.

Re charm:  Lots of wonderful VA charm: Alexandria, some parts of Arlington, Charlottesville and lots of charming little old towns.  And gorgeous ski slopes.  Wintergreen.

Re space:  I don't understand those who claim they get lost over here.  Get a map or a GPS system.  Or move to NYC where you can live on a grid.  I find the rural charm here delightful.  Wish I had enough property for a horse.  I like being able to drive and park.  I can't do that in CC and will turn down party invites if I know I won't be able to find parking over there.

Re snobbery:  MD wins hands down as evidenced by the OP who started this all.  Just please all go to your all-white, all-men country clubs and stay there.

Re racists:  We aren't.  Get over it.

Re the south:  MD is also in the "the south.

Re conservatism:  Personally I think that is a plus, but the state is a mish-mash of politics - everyone knows that.

Freedom:  VA has the spirit.  MD is dead.[/quote]
