It doesn't mean you can post your opinion on X on Saturday and are protected from getting fired or suspended at work on Monday.

Now, where it gets murky with reporters is the freedom of the press aspect. Did he say that as a reporter in the capacity of doing his job? No. He said it as a private citizen who happens to be employed by ABC News. Had he said it as a reporter while doing a story and the white house demanded his firing/suspension, that would be against his first amendment rights to free speech and freedom of the press.
