There is a tweet with charts and links that I’m having trouble linking here, but every last medication approved by the FDA 2010-2016 started with NIH-funded research. This is where the basic science happens that industry later builds upon. Every person you know or have ever known who takes any medication or treatment can thank the NIH and our researchers for their hard work and medical advancements.
RFK Jr’s beloved ketamine is an FDA approved treatment due to research that started in the intramural program at NIH. Other researchers outside of NIH then built on it with research funded by NIH. We do not want companies to be the only ones doing biomedical research. They will only perform studies that confirm what they already want to see. They will ignore data that doesn’t support their agenda of moving a treatment through a pipeline. They will silence employees who raise safety concerns.
