I understand discussing this before he became president, but now that he has been voted in, let's see what he actually tries to do. I say this as a SN mom. He can't just waive a magic wand and take away everything. I don't recall him mentioning that the second he takes office he's coming after the disabled. Lets see what get proposed and then we can advocate and try to stop it.
OP here. He is proving he CAN wave a magic wand and hurt our disabled family members. DEI GONE! POOF!
DEI was NEVER about the disabled and you know it. It was about skin color, that's it.
The EO didn’t say DEI. It said DEIA. The A is for accessibility. He literally directly targeted a accessibility programs and put those who work in those departments on leave as of 5pm yesterday.
Damn. Way worse than I thought. It's crystal clear now his hatred for the disabled.
This is true. Disability hiring is under the umbrella of DEI, and those programs (in federal agencies at least) are going away. That wasn't really Trump's and his minions' goal, but some disability initiatives will be collateral damage for sure. This is not right, even under Trump's argument, because these programs aren't about special treatment but rather leveling the playing field (so making decisions based on merit, as they purport to support). But, they operate the same way (i.e., disabled people being a protected class). Some of these instances will be challenged in court though, because it's required under law. You can't EO away the ADA, Rehab Act, etc., and it would not be politically smart to try to do so.
