Clearly people are in denial about what will happen. Some teacher just told me she’s happy that T will dismantle the Dept of Ed. Didn’t mention that her pension is likely out the window too. No thought about unintended consequences like how the loss of 4400 employees will affect the market X all the other agencies. Not to mention the teachers who will quit because they don’t want to sign loyalty pledges or die in childbirth because Texas doesn’t have enough obgyns.
I have not read all of the replies but you are likely quoting me. I’m the same teacher who posted on page 1 and wrote on a different thread that I hope the department of ed gets dismantled. Let us teach content without the bureaucracy. As for the pension, that’s a laugh. Do you think that’s a benefit? I work in Virginia. The only money that’s given to me is money that was taken out of my own paycheck over the years, mandatory, and put into the retirement account. It’s like a forced 401k. It’s not some wonderful benefit. Get rid of it. I can do that on my own with a financial advisor like I do anyway. It’s not enough to live on in retirement AND it’s money I saved. I have a supplemental retirement fund, just like you do.
