This was a very restrained counter-strike by Israel. It looks like about twenty military targets - air defense and missile and drone manufacturing facilities. All planes returned safely. It does demonstrate that Israel can hit Iran at will with the F-35s, which is important. But the restrained nature of this strike - no oil facilities, no nuclear targets, no attacks on leadership - demonstrates that Israel has no interest in escalating further. Iran would be wise to let it be and to consider itself lucky it wasn't worse. The key takeaway is Israel demonstrating that it has the capability to put a 100 aircraft in Iranian airspace and take out targets at will.
No it was the most they could do. There are only 36 f35 in Israel with a combat readiness of under 50%(though that number is most likely a lot lower given the F15 is about 33%- ie 1 in 3 planes can fly at any given time). Guarantee they didn’t use them in Iran. Losing a the US top fight in Iran would be a disaster for the US. What I am saying of course the Israelis would do that. What do they care? If they used the f35 they were refuel by the US which means the US participated. Israel has a total of 251 “fighter” aircraft. The majority are f16. Israel does not have a big or long range capability. Contrary to what you say Israel desperately wants to do as much damage as possible and continue the war. The thing is Israel can not hit the nuclear facilities(build deep underground) and the world would go apesh#t if Israel attacked the oilfield. So this is what they did but they would not be able to do it without direct US aid. Also word is none of the ballistic misses Iran fired were shot Israel or the US. That is why the US sent THAAD to Israel. There are only 7 active THAAD system in the world and they cost 1.3-1.9 billion each. They are not designed for a large are defense like say Tel Aviv. Meaning if Iran seriously responds(no warning and with an all out attack) Israel will suffer a lot of casualties. [/quote] Could you clarify this a little bit. I readily admit, I am confused with the bolded statement.
