Pope says "both are against life. He wants to remove immigrants, she wants to kill children. You have to choose which is the lesser evil."
cite your source.
DP See quote below. As a former Catholic, the church's fixation on abortion is disgusting. They don't care what the actual consequences on women are of abortion bans. They don't care about women's lives. I think, and excuse my language, that the Pope should stfu. https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/13/politics/pope-francis-trump-harris-abortion/index.html
Pope Francis on Friday described the choice US voters must make in the presidential election as one between the “lesser of two evils,” deeming former President Donald Trump’s anti-migrant policies and Vice President Kamala Harris’ support of abortion rights as both being “against life.” “One must choose the lesser of two evils. Who is the lesser of two evils? That lady or that gentleman? I don’t know,” Francis said during a press conference on the papal plane, referring to Harris and Trump. “Everyone with a conscience should think on this and do it.”

The Pope said "he doesn't know". That's pretty damning for Trump, actually, given the Catholic church's stance on abortion.
An illustrative story. I grew up in a very Catholic family. Had to miss a statewide championship for a HS EC to attend mass on a holy day of obligation. I didn’t want to be confirmed my junior year of HS, and was told I got confirmed or I was being kicked out of the house (so, the Spanish Inquisition brand of Catholicism). I went to college and never went to church again unless I was home for the summer or a holiday, because mass attendance was a condition of coming home. I pretty obviously left the church and never looked back. I now stay in an AirBNB when I visit my parents because a condition of staying with them is my kids and myself attending church and I’m not doing that— especially to my kids. I had an unplanned ectopic pregnancy with an IUD. After I had already had my two kids, when I had been married ten years. No irresponsibility or extra marital hanky panky. Because of the irregular periods and general adjustment to the IUD, I didn’t know I was pregnant until it ruptured. It was a very touch and go dash to the OR while my DH signed forms at 1 am and was scary as f&&k. And traumatizing for me. Like, flashbacks and PTSD trauma. Almost dying while your kids watch will do that. I obviously lost the tube, which, honestly, was small potatoes considering how close I had come to dying. Also technically an abortion. We called my sister, the only family nearby, and she refused to come and watch my kids “so I could have an abortion”. When my mother found out, she refused to talk to me for a long time because I’d had an abortion. She said she couldn’t have a relationship with me because it was too painful. Seeing me (and her grandkids) just reminded her that she wouldn’t see any of us in heaven— me because abortion is a mortal sin and her grandkids because I hadn’t had them baptized (although if you are Catholic, you are probably thinking the same thing as I am— that my mom kitchen sink baptized my kids the first moment she was alone with them. Which, whatever, it’s just water. Bigger fish). And then she talked to her priest who said my abortion didn’t “count”. She called me all excited that there would be no he11 for me. And could not understand that the whole experience had been, for me, hellacious. We now have a very superficial, talk once a month relationship. I just can’t. The Church is crazy on abortion. Just b@tshit crazy. Now, they have never been anything but misogynistic, racist, and hateful towards LGBTQ, so those issues don’t even factor in for the Pope. But, the poor, the sick, the migrant, the hungry, kids being shot in school? They all take a backseat to abortion, which is one of the few mortal sins— automatic he11 that you can’t pray, confess or atone your way out of. Priests diddling kids? Confess and be forgiven. Abort to save your life? Directly to he11 don’t pass go. It’s just crazy.
