IMO - Arlington, NVA, VDA, Bethesda - though they all have their own ups and downs. Families should sign a one-year contract with the coach best for their kid's development and reassess every year. Arlington seems to have the best overall group of coaches. Bethesda has a monopoly on talent in Montgomery County. VDA plays hungry, and is more blue collar than Arlington and other places. NVA produces results if you can survive the politics. Generalizations with exceptions - but that's what you'll hear and experience from many. [/quote]

Part of development is being able to play against high level of competition and practice with teammates that are similarly competitive and focused. So Bethesda is the only one I would consider in the list above.  We’ve not considered ECNL/EDP 1 clubs because the players want to play in high school and don’t seem to take their training seriously (DS observation after practicing with a few of them over the years).
