your mistake was thinking SYC is good.

Our NVA boys 0-0 DCU, we can hang with the best of them.
NVA. LOL.
we beat syc, tie dcu, no other teams in dmv can compete.

If not good, why does SYC get mentioned or trashed so much on DCUM? There must be something there to be raised all the time.
As someone else also posted, every academy gets trashed on this board. If you were to ask my opinion about SYC, they get trashed because of their lack of player development. They do a great job of recruiting and using the MLS brand to pull players from other academies. They stay relevant by continually pulling talent from other clubs in the area, but they don't develop current players or improve the players that join the academy. I watched 2 games a week ago for their U16 (vs. Queen City Mutiny) and U19 (vs Arlington) MLS Next teams. I was not involved with any of the teams that were playing; I just had some time to kill and thought the games would be fun to watch. In both cases, SYC showed great skill on the ball, but over dribbled and consistently lost the ball to more disciplined and well coached teams. I have seen both of these SYC teams over the years and these are the same mistakes that I have seen in the past when the players were younger. For instance the U19 Arlington team, which won 2-0 over SYC, moved the ball consistently with one and two touches, made runs through the SYC defense, and consistently stopped the over-dribbling SYC players. SYC only created one "real" scoring opportunity the whole game, and Arlington's goalie had very little work to do. Arlington on the other hand, kept consistent pressure on SYC's goal and easily could have had a couple of additional goals. The SYC boys on their top teams are athletic and some have amazing individualistic skill, which does win them some games, but at the high school ages, when players should be refining their team play and technical skills, I see that their players have not progressed past the "let's try to dribble the ball around several defenders" stage of development. Just my opinion on how I think the game should be played.
